404 Wilmes – near Highland Mall – yes that’s a good thing!

It’s funny how the definition of “Central Austin” has changed over the years, and yes, I know to some calling this home at 404 Wilmes “central” is a stretch. But it’s not north of Anderson, and i’ts in between the 2 big highways, so in my opinion – Central.
Also what sets 404 Wilmes apart, what makes it the great opportunity, is it’s closeness to Highland Mall. Yes, THAT Highland Mall, a.ka.a the ghost town of malls – at the moment. But if you don’t know, or haven’t read, it’s been bought by Austin Community College – they have interesting and unique plans for the space that include college classrooms, parking garages, commercial businesses, retail and some residential – you can read about the Highland Mall plans HERE
Ok on to the house – 404 Wilmes is located just north of Denson, just off of Guadalupe – it’s a 3 bedroom one bath house, approximately 1310 square feet.
The garage has been converted so that adds a great bonus room, play room, music room, craft room – can you imagine all the craft supplies you could keep there, my dream.
There is a large utility room with a washer and dryer included – and plenty of room to add some shelves or cupboards for maximum storage.
The floors are laminate, with stained concrete in 2 of the bedrooms and the bonus room. A dorm fridge leak in one bedroom caused a bit of damage that is visible when you walk in one of the bedrooms, but it would likely be covered by furniture anyway!

The kitchen has recent appliances and lots of cupboards, there is room to add more along the wall, or it’s a great spot for a kitchen table.
Probably my fave feature of 404 Wilmes is the screened in porch. I love a screened in porch. The back yard is big for a central austin lot, and there are chicken coops already!
Besides Highland Mall – 404 Wilmes is also convenient to bus stops, the Crestview Metro Rail station, Lamar, Airport and Anderson Lane conveniences.
So check out a neighborhood you probably don’t know and see just how central it is
