Stuff you gotta do in austin: January 2011 Edition

Yahoo – welcome to a new year of fabulous fun funky Austin events! As always there are too many to catch all of them, I post what comes in my radar, feel free to email me an event you think should be included to [email protected] – i’m partial to music, art, funky, foodie, free, austiny stuff.

Also I apologize for missing the first week of January – yikes, I had surgury right before Christmas and recovery was a wee bit harder than anticipated – hitting the ground running now!

First of all Red River Free Week is happening now! Free music, every night, on Red River! It goes through January 9th so it’s not too late to partake – check out the schedules & bands – RED RIVER FREE WEEK

Second of all the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is FREE for the whole of January! A great great opportunity to visit this beautiful place

Friday January 7th thru Sunday January 9th

Star of Texas Tattoo Art Revival – at the Palmer Events center – $15 a day, weekend passes available, kids 12 & under free. See some of the best tattoo artists from around the country, even at least one from Japan that I noticed. Saturday Janurary 8th

The Ted Roddy Elvis Show – annual Elvis Presley birthday bash featuring the incredible Ted Roddy at Austin’s legendary Continental Club on South Congress, two shows! Kids welcome at the matinee! Check out Ted Roddy’s website for details

January 11th all the way thru Februay 12th – a MONTH

Hyde Park Theater Frontera Fest – offbeat, fringe theater for a month, this is very fun! Check schedule HERE

Friday January 14th to Sunday January 16th

Austin Home & Garden Show – at the Austin Convention Center, $7.50, kids under 16 free.  Everything you need for your home, DIY, questions answered, demos, new products, it’s all in one place. very exciting! http://www.austinhomeandgardenshow.com/

Monday January 17th

Martin Luther King March & Festival! – The March starts at the MLK Statue on UT campus at 9am and ends at Huston-Tillotson college for a fun festival!  Check out mlkcelebration.com for info

Sunday January 30th

3M Half Marathon & Relay – if listing this doesn’t inspire you to run, at least be aware of road closures!  I ran this half marathon 3 years ago and lets just say I didn’t run out of band aids & post-its for long long time…great goody bag. The race is almost full  – register HERE
