Ok the glaring omission from March what to do in Austin blog post is….SXSW – there’s just too much, it’s probably all cool, and there is most certainly many other blogs & sites devoted to what to do & where to go those 10 days from March 12th to March 22nd…so google it.

Austin Restaurant Week

When: well this started Feb 28th but goes thru March 3rd – then again March 7th – 1oth

Where: restaurants all over town – for the deets

Why: benefits sustainable food center AND you get a good excuse to eat in delish new restaurants

American Sabor: Latinos in US popular Music

When: NOW till May 9th

Where: Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum

What: a temporary exhibit and the first of it’s kind to tell the story of the profound influence and impact of Latinos in American popular music. It has artifacts from legends such as Richie Valens, interactive kiosks, listening stations, a dance floor – woohoo! tons of hands on check it out kinda stuff. My kids will LOVE this – here’s the website SABOR

Cowboy Breakfast

When: Friday March 5th at 6 am (YES)

What: the official kick off to the Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo  – read HERE

Where: Auditorium Shores

Texas Independance Day 5k Run & Parade

When: Saturday March 6th 8am for the Run – Parade at 9:30

Where: 5k starts at the South side end of the Congress Bridge and the parade goes up Congress  for all the events surrounding Texas Independence Day

Explore UT

When: Saturday March 6th 11-5

Where: ALL over UT campus – Hence “explore”

What: Giant open house at University of Texas at Austin. 300 activitis across campus, all ages, all realms, Art, Science, culture. It really is one of the most fun and amazing things I have ever gone to or taken my kids to. It’s soooo huge that you really must plan – so check out progams & activities on the website

It’s My Park Day

When: Saturday March 6th

What: volunteers work on beautifying and cleaning and sprucing up our gorgeous Austin Parks. This year they are adding an Art component incorporating some natural materials found in the parks. Cool to the Max – sign up for a park project HERE

Ethan Azarian – Kid Friendly Music Show

When: Saturday March 6th 5p,-6

Where: Central Market  – north Lamar Location

Ethan is a clever songwriter & amazing aritst, and Jeff Johnston will be playing the musical saw – a sight not to be missed! These guys actually played at my daughter’s 3rd birthday party (minus the saw) and much dancing and tomfoolery occured.  Get food and let the kids play. Perfect Austin

Zilker Kite Festival

When: Sunday March 7th 10am -5pm

What: I’m scared to talk about this cos of the recent weather – BUT – it’s the most magical sight, so if it’s good weather at least drive by – kites, hundreds, in the air, happy people – you can’t beat it.  Crazy big kites, funky home made ones, kids galore.  Demos & contets. – oh yeah and FREE!

RE BarCamp Austin

When: Thursday March 11th – noon to 6 and an afterparty!

What:  a fun cool “un” conference for anyone in the real estate world (or any other world — PR, Marketing, etc) who wants to improve their social media game and it’s FREE

The Rodeo starts March 12th – i’m technically not supportive of it as I don’t agree with the animal treatment ect…BUT there are good concerts and the Midway is good wholesome fun – so google it 🙂

What: it speakes for itself: Twitter + Festival = Charity 0r as another person put it “Social Rockstars for Social Good” – in other words a giant tweet up of festival proportions to raise money for charty – this VIDEO from last year explains it perfectly, and here’s the website TWESTIVAL AUSTIN

Zilker Garden Festival

When: Saturday March 27th & Sunday March 29th 10am-5pm – $5 Adults, $3 Children (3-12 yrs.)
Parking $3

What: must be spring with all these gardening events! This is the 53rd year for this tradition. it’s essentialy a one-stop, garden-shopping experience.  Bring your wagon. Buy Plants, partake in garden-themed arts and crafts, pottery, and unique jewelry. It’s Austin so there is live music, gardening talk, the annual Flower Show, and always fun Kids Corner.

I adore Arlo Guthrie, since I was a kid, and i’ve never seen him, loving his dad Woody goes without saying, this tour is Arlo and his kids.  A must
